Whats the difference between an Elasticated and a normal hunting breastplate?

Are they used for different things? My saddle occassionally slips a little back, would an eleastic one be better? i want it for Hunting, and maybe some ODE’s.Which one should i get? how to choose? Why do they have eleastic bits on them anyway?! thanks

The elastic ones basically just fit to your horse better and are more flexible. I highly recommend elastic ones, but the only problem is they are a little bit harder to keep clean. Make sure you get d- ring savers/ extenders!

The elastic would make them conform more to the shape of the horse and provide some give and take as the horse moves. I would also think it would help to prevent the leather from stretching….and more comfortable for the horse. Similar to the elastic ends on girths.

As far as which one and how to chose I can’t offer any suggestions there as I am not familiar with them.

I have an all leather breastplate as well as one with elastic and I prefer the elastic one. It moves with the horse better. If you are buying a new one, I would recommend getting one with the elastic in it.

elastic is better for you as it doesnt restrict the horse shoulder when jumping!

The elastic inserts allow the horse to really stretch his shoulders if necessary and is also lighter weight. It expands and contracts with the horse’s movements.

The normal breast plate is to my mind far more restrictive and heavy and does not do much to prevent the saddle slipping back.
