I’ve only ever applied once online at Boston Pizza…and i got the job!! but they were really desperate and have a high staff turn over rate.
I think it’s always better to go in and drop off applications. Even talk to the manager if they are around and not busy because then they are able to size you up and get a first impression where as online you dont really know who your hiring!

Yes, just last week I went online to a hospital’s website and submitted their online application. I got a call a few days later and I have an interview set up for this Thursday. Wish me luck!

i’ve been successful but i do alot of just promotion type stuff and thats really the only way to get in contact with those types of employers. if you really want the job, you need to send your resume and then YOU keep calling THEM till they ask you in for a physical interview.

I was successful, but it was with an entry level job that I was over qualified for. I think many of those sites are good for companies seeking a large quantity of employees OR a company looking for very specific skills, for other jobs, it is very hit and miss. Try searching companies you are interested in (I know that takes a bit of work) and apply directly on their website. Also remember, sometimes hoofing it in person down to the HR dept. can do wonders, particularly if you have a beautiful hard copy resume and are impeccably groomed. Best wishes.

I’ve gotten two jobs from applying online over the past several years, but it took literally hundreds of submittals. The fist time it was almost instantaneous because I had the perfect credentials for the job. The second time I was lucky because it was the right place at the right time.

In most cases a hiring manager won’t see 95% of the resumes submiited. They are usually pre-screened by an HR person or software program based on certain pre-assigned criteria. The ones that do pass the criteria test are then sent on to the hiring manager. With some jobs the number of applications or resumes can reach into the thousands and so this screening out process can take weeks or even months. That maybe why you haven’t gotten any calls yet. Ironically I used to get calls from HR managers with companies I sent resumes to 6 months to a year after I submitted them and I’ve already gotten hired somewhere else.

If you know someone from inside the company it can really help because often times they can look up the hiring managers name associated with req. number. I’ve done this on a number of occasions and while it may not get you hired, it certianly does help speed the process along.
