How can I learn more about hunting, fishing, guns, and outdoors?

I am 16 years old and I want to start hunting and fishing. I have never hunted and only fish maybe once a month. My dad has bought a cabin and he goes hunting and fishing all the time and I need to get information about deer, guns, and tips and stuff on fishing and hunting. I would like websites and online information if you could give me links. I will also take other sources of information. Thanks for all your help ahead of time!
I have take a hunters safety education course and have my heritage card.

Your dad sounds like a great start. You should be honest with him and talk with him in order to obtain your information. If he hunts and fishes as much as you say he does, and if you show some interest he may start taking you on his trips more often.

Your department of conservation should mail free subscriptions to their magazines. Just go to the website of the state you live in and find their magazine and sign up. I live in MO and recieve the MO Conservationist. It is the MODOC magazine, they give one out every other month and is a great resource for local and state information. They include stories of hunters, wildlife, fishing, as well as places to go to find more information. They will also include a detail dated page of what is in season for both hunting and Fishing. Other than that your Department of Conservation building should have all kinds of free hand outs and brochures.

It is hard to say where to look for gun and fisherman information, almost every magazine and online resource is very biased and paid for by its advertisers to do stories on their tools and firearms. For guns I would start with gunsmagazine.com. The reason for this is because you can either get a subscription to their magazine or enjoy their free online content. You can view each months magazine online for free. They give alot of information about the styles and uses of guns and different ammunition.

For information on deer, I would choose outdoorlife.com. They have many forums online where you can find all kinds of information about deer. As well as firearm and bow hunting. Different calls and tactics to use during your hunt. As well as how deer live and how they interact. They also cover fishing as well.

It is hard to say where the best place to go for information is because there is so much information on the topics you have chosen. Just search around and find what fits you. As far as guns go, that is a huge topic and everyone has their two cents. I use everyday firearms as I like to call them rather than very expensive and elaborate ones. Any firearm will last forever if taken care of. You do not need to spend thousands of dollars either. I wish you luck on your search and I hope that you will come to love fishing and Hunting just as much as the next guy.
