I have Veterinary Pet Insurance http://petinsurance.com/ on all three of my dogs.

If you just plan to fix up your dog than cancel the policy it won't be cost effective.

Know that insurance for pets is not like human insurance where you go to the vet and pay a co-pay. Pet insurance you go to the vet PAY the ENTIRE bill and than submit receipts and forms. A good insurance company will have a list of conditions and treatments and a cap of what they'll pay you back on ... if you find one that doesn't don't buy them. Also MOST pet insurance companies the pet insurance is not cover emegency or severe illness conditions they do not cover routine exams, and yearly vaccinations. They also usually have a grace period before the policy kicks in like 10 or 15 days from when you purchase it before you can claim anything. they don't retroback to adoption dates or perexisting condions.

I do like VPI because they allow me to pick any vet, not just an approved short list and they very clearly have lists and charts that you can view at any time to see what their max is for any known condition or treatment PLUS they sell rides (add on policies) that do cover most shots and routine exams each year. You pay extra but if you're a doggie parent who would get the exam and shots nonetheless you have nothing to lose.

Also depending on your dog's age at adoption they might require a vet check to accept the dog..if the dog is found sick at that check or mites, kennel cough, etc...they won't cover it since it had the illness before you got the policy.
References :
Really check the insurance you will find not all the vets will take it and the ones that do you have to drive half way cross the state..
If it is like all insurance if your dog already has a pre existing condition it will not be covered . Kennel cough is contagious and you really need to just have him checked out.
Good Luck
References :
dog owner, and checked into insurance

I would keep the insurance but that's just me. You just never know wha't gonna happen. I have VPI, Veterinary Pet Insurance. Filing claims is pretty easy with them. They're pretty good, I think they're also pretty cheap but I'm not sure if they cover pre existing conditions.
References :
Best Pet Insurance for my chihuahua (pennsylvania) is it worth it?
I just adopted a Chi from a local SPCA and i need to take him to the vet for a checkup. He seems to have a kennel cough, possibly a small cold. Plus maybe mites on his skin. I was thinking about possibly purchasing insurance so it wont cost hundreds of dollars, whats the best & cheapest to go with ?

Also, i might just drop the insurance after he gets a clean bill of health, all his shots (still needs his rabies) Would it be worth it to insure him until i know hes healthy?

Thanks!
I need to know what Companies (include a link?) so i can buy the insurance, i dont know of any and i was hoping people who HAVE insurance for their pets and they like it could direct me to the name/website
